EXIF geotagging – Basics

EXIF Geotagging #

For Sony and ADTi cameras is ENTIRE cappable to geotag JPG or RAW images directly in the camera. For Canon R5 is ENTIRE cappable to geotag JPG files in-camera SD card. Once you land your drone, all photos are geotagged with precise GPS position of the capture. Optionally you can also get accurate camera angle in the EXIF with supported Gremsy or SimpleBGC gimbals. Also you can equip EXIFs with accurate subject distance measurement (not available for Canon), measured by supported Laser range finder (LightWare).

Drone Compatibility #

Our system is able to read GPS positions from :

  • DJI A3 or DJI N3 flight controllers (DJI M600 drone included)
  • DJI M300
  • PixHawk
Camera Compatibility #

Geotagging mode for Sony and ADTi cameras uses USB connection in Mass Storage mode.
Geotagging mode for Canon R5 uses WiFi to geotag images.

For Sony and ADTi, as opposite to camera control mode, where Entire uses PC Remote USB mode of the camera, in Mass Storage mode camera has no support for remote control of exposure values.

Due to this fact, we’ve implemented workarounds to achieve back full Camera control.

    • For Sony cameras it is IR Commanding and SmartPlug camera control and mixed WiFi mode. SmartPlug is basically smart dummy battery inserted in Camera’s battery slot. SmartPlug provide power for the Camera and also simulates original Battery Grip for remote control. Alternatively, for cameras where SmartPlug can not be used, we’ve implemented mixed WiFi & USB control mode, where camera is controlled via WiFi and Geotagged via USB.
    • For ADTi we offer additional “ADTi Ctrl” connection, which is used to fully control all exposure parameters.
    • For Canon is geotagging done via WiFi together with full camera control.

As per tables below, for Sony cameras you can choose three options:
   1) Geotagigng + Basic control
   2) Geotagging + Full control via SmartPlug
   3) Geotagging + Full control via WiFi
If you would like to get full control and your camera can be controlled via SmartPlug, use SmartPlug control option over WiFi.

For ADTi and Canon is selection straight forward.
